The following outlines specific and relevant ways each brand is helping the industry move toward a greener tomorrow.
Cleveland Range
- Cleveland plant features new assembly lines offering improved flow, visual management, and data collection and analysis.
- Plant uses recycled paper and skids.
- Cleveland no longer prints service manuals; they are available online.
- Ohio plant features high output florescent lighting in all areas.
Delfield
- Implementation of Lean manufacturing processes has improved productivity in the Custom Division by 20 percent in the past 3 years and by 30 percent in the Reach-In Division.
- Has reduced energy use by approximately 12.5 percent by installing more efficient 128 watt lights in both manufacturing facilities.
- Eliminated R-22 as a blowing agent in foam and converted to a new green EcoMate foam.
- Wood waste products are segregated for grinding and used as a co-generator of electrical energy.
- All refrigeration technicians are certified in handling refrigerants.
- Recycling programs in both plants for paper, cans/bottles, cardboard, steel and aluminum.
Frymaster
- Implemented oil-free testing in fabrication of the MJ35 frypot.
- Recycling programs for paper, cardboard, ink and toner cartridges, and aluminum.
- Eliminating the use of foam peanuts for shipping.
- T5 fluorescent lighting in all facilities.
- Sinks feature automatic shut-off valves when not in use.
- Quick opening and closing doors installed to reduce air loss during stacking and loading.
- Use a paperless work system for all drawing and work orders.
Garland
- Developing systems that will reduce steel material utilization and reduce scrap.
- Employee awareness initiatives to reduce paper use and waste; other recycling programs include scrap steel, cardboard and wood.
- Plant features high-efficiency lighting.
- Water conservation efforts include water recirculation in welding, low-flow toilets, timed water sprinkler systems.
- Furnace offers ability to shut down over the weekend or holidays.
Kolpak
- Lean manufacturing implementation - new Automated Engineering System (AES) has reduced labor and lowered error rate.
- Eliminated the use of 1,1 dichloro-1-flouroethane as a blowing agent in foam; switched to a green foam blowing agent.
- Additional punch capabilities have been added to increase production and minimize scrap and excess metals.
- Implemented bulk packaging whenever possible.
- 95% of corrugated cardboard comes from SFI Certified Sourcing, with 20% comprised of recycled materials.
- Returnable skids used on bulk compressors.
- Older thermostats have been replaced with programmable thermostats.
- Water heaters for machinery and air compressors are set to run only during production hours.
- Offices are being remodeled with acoustical panels to limit sound pollution.
